Rotary International District 7790

Former projects

2002 Project

One of the characteristics of District 7790 is conducting is an International project of scale. This year will not be different, and we will collaborate in the creation of an agricultural Institute in Peru.

This year's project is one that will prepare the people of the area with an agricultural background which will enhance their way of living. Our plan is to build an agricultural school named Instituto Technologico Valle of Tambo. We will be supplying all aspects of the project including, desks, chairs, blackboards, computers, farm animals, farm machinery along with laboratory equipment for experiments in farming for the students.

This school will be located in the villages of Meja and Curba on the edge of the Pacific in the south of Peru located two hours from the town of Arequipa. This institute, when finished, will help the young people of this area to learn agriculture with modern methods. We picture this project as an on-going one that will in time equip the people to grow their own farm products and become productive in their area. GIVE A PERSON GOOD AND THEY EAT FOR A DAY…TEACH THEM TO GROW THEIR FOOD AND THEY EAT FOR A LIFETIME.

This area profits from a Mediterranean climate, but the lack of knowledge of the farmers prevents them from benefiting fully from the richness of their climate. Moreover, certain diseases devastated the last fields these year and the Institute will seek to identify the solution to this problem.

On our visit in December 2001, we concluded from the agreements with the Mayors of the municipalities and with Universidad Nacional de Aréquipa which will take care of the shutter formation, thus ensuring us of the quality of teaching.

The cost of the project is estimated at $159,000 US. We hope to raise this sum thanks to the generosity of our clubs, the Rotary Foundation and the public in general. Activities for raising of funds are envisaged for this purpose.

1999-2000 Project
Petrolina 1999-2000

Building Houses in Brazil was our goal. We originally thought about 25 and then increased it to 50. That number grew and grew as enthusiasm for the project grew and District 7790 combined efforts with District 4500 in Brazil to build over 125 shelters for people who were living in deplorable conditions and working and living at the garbage dumps and other menial jobs in the Petrolina and North Petrolina area.

District 7790 received matching funds from Rotary International for this pilot project approval and also received funds from CRCID (Canadian Rotary Committee for International Development) in Canada which matched funds donated by Canadian clubs. The Petrolina and Petrolina Norte clubs donated the manpower to oversee the project and submit reports on time.

The people of District 7790 are proud of being able to complete this project within one year to give people shelter, running water, and a reason to want to live again. We are the Amity District and we are proud to have been a Friend to District 4500.
